- sound wave can not travel without the presence of a medium .
- Sound wave can be longitudinal or transverse . The sound propagating through air or any other gas is a longitudinal wave and sound propagating through solid can be longitudinal or transverse , depending upon the mode of excitation .
- The velocity of sound wave through air depends upon several factors like density, temperature , humidity and wind - velocity etc .
- The velocity of sound through air at normal temperature and pressure is 332m/s .
- The sound waves of frequency range 20 Hz to 20 kHz are audible to the human beings . it is called audio frequency range .The frequency below 20 Hz are called infrasonics and those above 20 kHz are called ultrasonics
