WHAT IS SIMPLE HARMONIC MOTION

Simple harmonic motion is a motion in which the acceleration of the particles is always directed towards a fixed point on a straight line and is proportional to the displacement of the particle from the point .

A  simple harmonic motion is a special type of periodic motion which can be expressed in terms of harmonic functions i.e. sine and cosine of angles . In a SHM the three important things are :

  1. The motion is always periodic
  2. .The restoring force always acts on the particle , when it is displaced from the mean position , in such a manner that it tries to bring particle back to its mean position .
  3. The restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement .
