WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF MECHANICS

Mechanics is the branch of physics which deals with the motion of particle in a system

                                 BRANCHES OF MECHANICS

  • Classical mechanics
  • Quantum mechanics
CLASSICAL MECHANICS  - The branch of mechanics which deals with the motion of the bodies which are of considerable size, not so big not so small . Classical mechanics is concerned with the set of physical laws describing the motion of bodies under the action of a system of forces .

Classical mechanics is the ancient and the largest subject in science and engineering . Newtons laws are obeyed in this mechanics , so this mechanics is known as NEWTONIAN MECHANICS .

Classical mechanics deals with the motion of macroscopic bodies . Speed do not approach to the speed of light . when the objects are too small such that of microscopic size ,they are studied under QUANTUM MECHANICS and when the objects are too big then they are studied under THEORY OF RELATIVITY .

e.g - Motion of simple pendulum ,motion of flywheel ,motion of various machinery etc .

QUANTUM MECHANICS - The branch of mechanics which deals with the physical phenomena at atomic scale i.e nano scale . in qunatum mechanics action is on the order of PLANCK CONSTANT .

Quantum mechanics  provide the mathematical description of much of  the dual particle like and wave like behaviour and the interaction of energy and matter.

In context of Q .M wave particle duality of energy and matter and UNCERTAINITY PRINCIPLE provide unified behaviour of photon and electron . The WAVEFUNCTION provide the information about probability amplitudeof position and momentum and other physical properties of particle .

e.g - angular momentum of electron bound to an atom or molecule , motion of free particle etc .
